Perth Dressage Club Memorandum and Rules

The Perth Dressage Club (PDC) was established to create a supportive environment for members to enhance and develop their dressage training and competition skills. The State Equestrian Centre (SEC) of Western Australia, Brigadoon, is our home base, offering members the amenity to train on the International Arena.
Objectives
In line with our goals of continuously providing the best opportunities for our members and their horses to progress through the training scale, we offer training/protocol tests, training days, in-house competitions, and clinics. A strict condition of membership is that riders must be current financial members of the Equestrian Western Australia (EWA). Horses do not need to be EA registered.
Club Rules
PDC is an affiliated organisation of Equestrian Australia and as such operates under EA rules (EA General Regulations and other EA policies and By-Law available on the EA website www.equestrian.org.au). All PDC events follow closely the official guidelines outlined in the National Dressage Rule Book and members are responsible for knowing and complying with these rules available here: EA Dressage Rule Book 2025_Final_v2.pdf.
  1. Safety and Conduct
    • In consideration of participating in dangerous horse sport activities, members must indicate they acknowledge the risks associated when entering equestrian events. Parents/guardians must consent for participants under 18.
    • All members must use due care to conduct themselves safely to avoid causing harm to others. Welfare and common sense are paramount, including following arena etiquette during warm-up for protocol tests, and obeying the direction of all ground staff.
    • Participation at PDC events is at the discretion of the Organising Committee, riders may be eliminated from a competition, or asked to dismount and remove the horse from the grounds if in breach of the rules (unless other penalties are stipulated).
  2. Code of Conduct for the Welfare of the Horse
    • At all stages during the preparation and training of competition horses, welfare must take precedence over all other demands FEI Code of Conduct for the Welfare of the Horse.pdf
  3. Attire
    • All riders must wear compliant tagged helmets and appropriate boots.
    • Rally days or inhouse competitions: PDC Club uniform (short or long-sleeved shirt) is preferred but non-compulsory paired, with black, white, or light-coloured breeches, riding tights, or jodhpurs.
    •  Uniforms are available for purchase on the Nominate Clubs website or contact the committee.
  4. Facilities and Equipment
    • The First Aid kit is in the classroom on SEC grounds.
    • Members participating in pole classes must assist with set-up and pack-away of poles and equipment.
    • Lunging yards are available nearby the CQuest arena.
    • Follow the direction of ground staff or PDC committee for use of warm-up areas.
    • Stables can be pre-booked through the SEC and must be left clean
    • Yards are available free of charge at Swan Valley Pony Club (pending demand).
    • Report any damage to committee members so it can be addressed with the SEC.
  5. Helper Duties
    • Each member is required to complete two helper duties throughout the year.
    • Helper duties may include but are not limited to:
      • Rally days: Manure clean up, judges/instructors morning tea and refreshments, pencilling/scoring (duties will be scheduled around your riding time)
      • Competition days: Arena gate attendance, Marshalling assistant, runner, front of house, administration, judges’ attendant.
Member Protection and Conduct

  • The committee may also refuse participation to any rider whose behaviour constitutes misconduct under the EA guidelines.
